Rod sadly passed away on 1 February 2011 aged 88 years, six months after his wife Joan passed away. Rod cared for Joan for the last two years of her life and went overnight from carer to being in need of care. Throughout Rod’s life he had been touched by lung disease, having suffered from consumption as a youth. In his latter days Rod suffered with COPD and sadly died of pneumonia. Rod was a colourful and lively character and loved being the life and soul of the party. He so enjoyed his work that he continued ‘tinkering’ until the last few years. Rod's family would like to thank all those who attended Rod’s funeral and contributed to the collection for the British Lung Foundation there, raising over £159 in addition to other donations made in Rod’s memory direct to the Foundation.
